Trust in God

Many people have a problem with trusting                        God explains to Abraham that he
in God.  Worry and fear are the biggest                            is willing to spare the evil cities
factors affecting complete trust in The Most                      of Sodom and Gomorrah for the
High.  There are many examples in the Bible                    sake of only a few righteous
of trust and mistrust of the King of all Kings.                     people.  This occurrence shows
the high value that God places
King David showed his trust in God,                                 on his people.
especially early in his life when he defeated
Goliath on the battlefield.  Before battling                          As believers, we need to believe
Goliath, David exclaimed: "The Lord that                          God, not only in easy times, but
delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and                       in difficult times as well.  A great
out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me                      example of  believing God in
out of the hand of this Philistine."                                     difficult times is Job.

Abraham showed his faith in God when he                                 Job 1: 20-22
attempted to sacrifice his son on direction
from God.  Abraham did not sacrifice his son             20.  Then Job arose, and rent his
because God saw his faith and told Abraham                   mantle, and shaved his head,
not to go through with it.                                                 and fell down upon the ground,
                                                                                    and worshipped,

Mistrust of God is shown in the bible by Saul,           21.   And said, Naked came I out
a king of Israel, who disobeyed God many                       of my mother's womb, and
times because he relied on his own                                 naked shall I return thither:
understanding and gave into his own desires                    the LORD gave, and the LORD
rather than serving God.                                                 hath taken away; blessed be
                                                                                   the name of the LORD.
King Solomon, who was given great wisdom
and riches by God, also showed mistrust of              22.  In all this Job sinned not,
God.  Late in his life, Solomon was disobedient               nor charged God foolishly.
to God by taking on ways and customs of
his wives rather than following God.                                Although Job lost his house,
his children, and all his cattle,
By destroying disobedience from our lives                       he decided to worship God
and increasing our faith we can prove to                          rather than blaming God for
God that we trust him.                                                  everything that went wrong.

We all need to worship God in
We can completely show that we trust God                    difficult times and not look at
by expelling fear and worry from our lives.                       God as the source of our
Disobedience comes from being fearful                           difficulties.  Changing the way
about a situation and then trusting in ourselves               we view problems are the best
to solve a situation rather than seeking God                    way to improve our faith and
for answers.                                                                 our relationship with God.
                                                                                  Seeing our problems as
God detests fear because fear exhibits a lack                 opportunities to prove our faith
of belief in God's power and strength.  Showing               to God is the most efficient
fear communicates a belief that God is not great             way to visualize and solve any
or not infallible.                                                             difficulty.

Believing is indicative of being righteous.  By                              Psalm 37:3
believing it purges us of sin and bad habits
that are in direct opposition to God's statutes                  Trust in the LORD, and do
and ways.                                                                    good; so shalt thou dwell in
                                                                                   the land,  and verily thou
God loves those who believe in him.  The                        shalt be fed.
examples of God's love toward the righteous
in the bible are very numerous.  One example                  By trusting in God he will
is a conversation between Abraham and God                   take care of our needs and
before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.                   ensure our safety at all times.

                                                                                   Continuing to believe God in
Genesis 18:17-26                                                         every situation will strengthen
our faith and insure that God
17. And the LORD said, Shall I hide from                         knows we trust him.
     Abraham that thing which I do;

18. Seeing that Abraham shall surely
become a great and mighty nation, and
all the nations of the earth shall be blessed
     in him?

19. For I know him, that he will command his
children and his household after him, and
they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do
justice and judgment; that the LORD may
bring upon Abraham that which he hath
     spoken of him.

20. And the LORD said, Because the cry of
Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because
     their sin is very grievous;

21. I will go down now, and see whether
they have done altogether according to
the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if
     not, I will know.

22. And the men turned their faces from
thence, and went toward Sodom: but
Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt
thou also destroy the righteous with the
    wicked?

24. Peradventure there be fifty righteous
within the city: wilt thou also destroy and
not spare the place for the fifty righteous
     that are therein?

25. That be far from thee to do after this
manner, to slay the righteous with the
wicked: and that the righteous should be
as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall
not the Judge of all the earth do right?

26. And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom
fifty righteous  within the city, then I will
spare all the place for their sakes.
